The Garden’s server is extremely close to capacity and as a result we have had some down time when we’ve been unable to access files or programs. We anticipate this down time will increase as our server gets closer and closer to capacity. We have moved large databases off the server to alleviate the stress until such time as we can replace it with a Dell PowerEdge R410: 2.4Ghz - 8GB RAM. Additionally, our oldest computers are not capable of running Microsoft Office XP and other software we now use. We use convoluted work-arounds and computer sharing to do our work which is proving to be less and less efficient all the time. Ten new computers along with a new server would greatly improve the Garden's ability to do our work in conservation, research and education as well as plan our horticultural displays and continue updating our digital collections.
Total project cost: $25,000
