For years KPBS has committed to covering the crucial environmental issues of air, water and land use that affect all citizens. The Environmental Reporting Fund will underwrite the cost of a reporter who covers this beat on a daily basis. San Diego’s proximity to the ocean and deserts makes our audience members passionate about the environment. They want to know about what is in the products they buy and consume, and of course, the impact of land use on resources of our beautiful region. The environment beat has proven to be a valued source of information for San Diegans seeking to know more about issues affecting their neighborhood and the world around them. Given our varied terrain and diverse inhabitants, there is not an element of the environment that does not, in some way, impact San Diego County residents.
