The Helen Woodward Animal Center runs under the direction of President Michael Arms, who has emphasized teaching “the business of saving lives” to other shelters and animal welfare personnel across the country and around the world through our ACES (Animal Center Education Services) program. Individuals and groups are invited to come to the Center for a three-day workshop series in which they learn best practices for everything from animal intake and care to accounting, fundraising, board management, and creative marketing, all to help run their organization more efficiently and save more lives. ACES workshops are taught by Helen Woodward Animal Center staff and a Board Member at no cost to participants. Annually, Helen Woodward Animal Center also offers an International ACES Conference where they cover the curriculum from the three-day workshop in much greater detail, as well as providing a variety of additional speakers who bring a wealth of knowledge on everything from training and marketing of adoptable animals to social media and public relations. The 2013 conference will be held September 26-28, 2013, in San Diego, California.
